Miller Chill Review: Buy Real Beer Instead.
Miller Chill is the latest insta-fad that lures non-beer drinkers to buy a so-called beer product. The big three beer brewers in the USA trot out this tired business tactic from time to time to drum up sales. Care for a Zima anyone? This latest flash in the pad is a lime and salt flavored “beer” that hopes to cash in on summer season. Sadly, even the lover of cheap yellow fizzy beer will find Miller Chill unworthy of the term beer.
Miller Shill, oops I mean Chill, is weak in body and artificial in taste – much like a cheap diet soda. Refreshing on a summer day? Sure, if you like to coat your throat with chemical food additives.
Citrus in beer is nothing new. Germans have long used lemon slices to mask off flavors in their wheat beer. Adding salt to beer is also nothing new. German Gose beer has been brewed with salt and coriander for centuries. So if you’d like to drink a citrus beer, go out and find a bad hefeweizen and add some lemon to make it taste better. If you looking for a refreshing summer beer, try a Gose.
Gose beer is synonymous with the German city of Leipzig. It was first brewed in the early 18th century in the Saxon town of Goslar, from which its name derives. The beer then became very popular in Leipzig amd the local breweries began to brew the style themselves. Towards the end of the 1800's it was considered the local beer style of Leipzig and countless Gosenschänke could be found in the city.
Gose is a pale, top-fermenting wheat beer, flavoured with both coriander and salt. The beer is fermented with lactic acid content and was once spontaneously-fermented.
Gose is a truly refreshing summer beer. I have spent many a day at the Leipziger Gose brewhouse beside old transition enjoying fresh Gose. I also buy a couple of the beer bottles to take home with me and must say, the bottles that Leipziger Gose come in are the most stange beer bottles I’ve ever seen.
So instead of wasting your hard earned money on Miller Shill, seek out some Leipziger Gose. You can thank me later.
