Glass Beer Boots

glass beer boot Yes, the fun looking glass beer boot comes from Germany, the land of, if you may call it, beer and honey. It is a favorite drinking mug for Oktoberfest participants because it can hold up to two (2) liters of smooth, tasty and crisp ale or lager and it is a symbol of being a pro beer drinker. Drinking beer from a boot for the first time is not easy as it looks. It takes practice and a lot of beer spills before one can enjoy drinking from it.

Today, glass beer boot has become more famous in the United States because of the movie, "BeerFest," a 2006 comedy offering by the Broken Lizard comedy group who brings the world with the hilarious comedy/horror "Club Dread." In "BeerFest," a glass beer boot has been used in beer drinking competitions. In college dorms and parties, you can see party people participating in a 'drink-till-you-drop' but 'dont let it spill even a drop' contest, using glass beer boots.

It is true that glass beer boot looks fancy, but do you know that it is created not to be just a fun alternative for regular beer mug? Beer boot has a history. It was created to commemorate the tradition of German soldiers in drinking from a leather boot. During World War I, members of the German army who would go to the frontline would pass around a leather army boot, containing a lager, and every man from the circle would drink from it until the boot would run dry. Some says that this tradition is a form of saying goodluck and godspeed to every member in the circle. As to whether the boot that German soldiers drink from were new, used or were in use, better asked the Germans; nonetheless, using a simple form of deduction, since it was war and everything was scarce (even uniform supplies), one member in the drinking circle may be 'kind' enough to offer his boot, which his members would accept 'wholeheartedly.'

What's the trick in drinking from a glass beer boot less the spills? Drink from the side of the boot. Not from back, but most especially not from front. Drinking from back will get you beer drenched from mouth to toe, while drinking from back makes you drink much air (since air is trapped from the toe), bloating you fast of air, not beer, and might make you burp all throughout the night.

So where you can buy a glass beer boot, you may ask. Just scour the internet and you'll find online stores that sell glass beer boot in different sizes, glass quality, and of course, the price.
